So a very quick catch up – I am expecting our first baby in just 2 more days. I am going in for a c-section on Tuesday morning. I had wanted to blog during the pregnancy, but I got so busy and when I wasn’t busy I was tired.

Somehow the baby has the nickname Nugget. I know I used to call the daddy Nugget, but in truth we have always called each other Noodle. So somehow after our 1st / 2nd scan we called it Nugget and it has just stuck. We are going the surprise route and do not know whether it is a boy or a girl. I am really happy we have not found out as it makes it even more exciting and it is another thing which will get me through the c-section. Instead of thinking about them cutting my open I will be thinking – in just a few minutes I will know if our Nugget is a boy or a girl.

So 2 more sleeps and then our lives change forever. We have tried to relax and chill and sleep as much as possible, but non of that can be stored in a bottle. We are excited for the journey that we have lying ahead!!!! We can’t wait to meet our precious Nugget.

What we know about Nugget so far (well how the pregnancy has been).

TG the pregnancy has gone well and I have enjoyed it so much. I honestly look so much pregnant than not and got so many nice comments regularly about how good i looked. I have been carrying well with nugget sitting right in my tummy and everything in front. Nugget is lying in perfect position for a natural birth, but due to a hairline fracture in my back and a scare in the 4th/5th month we need to go the caeser route.

From the beginning I have been chilled about birth and feeding. I said from the start if the doc says caeser is in the best interest of the baby then Caesar it is, I had no preconceived ideas of what would be best for me or baby. It was up to the doctor to make the most accurate call. I feel the same about breastfeeding. If my milk comes in and baby gains weight and is getting enough food I will certainly persevere if not and baby does not gain weight then we will look into formula.

Nugget, your dad and I cannot wait for your arrival, to meet you and cuddle you, shower you with love and happiness.

2 more sleeps….

The thing is though, do I want the world to know all about my private life, what is going on between me and the Nugget? Is it fair to him for me to blurt it all out?…

We were chatting yesterday about blogs with  a few friends, and most of the comments that came up were with regards to how well or poorly certain blogs are written. I tried to explain that the point of a blog is not for it to be a literary piece of work ( hell my spelling is atrocious). Blogs are often just a platform for individuals to have their brain farts and to voice their current concerns, thoughts and opinions. I can certainly understand why.

For me I’d much rather be writing a blog than writing a private notebook. In today’s world that just seems so archaic.

Winter is fast approaching and a lot of our days a grey and glooming, but Monday was a glorious sunny winter’s day in Cape Town. I was walking alone (I often walk with some friends) and decided to take some pictures to show just how beautiful Cape Town can be in winter too.  We all know Cape Town is amazing in summer!

As you can see from the puddles caused by the waves crashing on the promenade it was a wet weekend before.

It was still a little early so there weren’t too many people exercising just yet. This was at about 445pm. My destination the lighthouse is in the background.

Turning around and looking at the view of Lions Head. There were a couple of games of soccer happening on the grass.

The sun setting as I’m walking back. As mentioned it is winter so the sun sets a lot earlier than in summer. This was just before 6pm.

And now… it is a miserable gray day! Running and wet – I am a summer person, so waiting for summer to arrive in a few months…

I got a new job and an awesome new job at that. I realise just how fortunate I am at a time when so many people are losing jobs, I was able to secure a new one. The timing of it all was amazing. I found out that my current boss plans to close down the business at the end of this month. Although I had met the new compnay the week before nothing was certain. I never take anything for granted until I have something signed and sealed in may hands.

So for the last 2 weeks I have been a ball of worry waiting for everything to come through and thinking that I may not have a job was at the forefront of my mind. So many things panicked me – how would we survive on one salary, what would I do all day (I am not the type to sit around and do nothing), would someone hire me after hearing the company I was at went in, etc etc all these thoughts and more were going through my head.

But, I am lucky, very lucky and very appreciative. I found what I think will be my dream job. It is going to be a challenge, but I am up for that!

So to get to the point. As mentioned last week it was a gray Monday and honestly the week  did not get much better from there. However, there were one or two interesting events that could have lead to a happier end to the week. However, the interesting events did not materialise and I am still waiting, waiting, waiting.

I am not generally impatient – ok i can be a little, but for big “things” I really would like instant gratification. I am a worrier – i get that from my mother  – I firmly believe it is a horrible hereditry Jewish trait  – worry – but I have it and boy do I live up to it at times like this.

So while I wait for this waiting game to end, i just sit and worry. I am trying to keep myself busy, but the wonderful thing about being a woman is that I can multi-task. Therefore I can keep myself busy with other “things”, but can worry at the same time. My poor tummy is filled with knots. I am trying to be positive though – I do think that is the best think, be positive and optimistic. Not always easy – but it needs to be done!

Yes, it was part of a competition in order to create awareness about global warming, but that means that they are supporting a good cause.

I thought it was going to be a good day. I woke up feeling amped and motivated to work. However, I then got to work and how the tides turned. Funny though, cos even the kuk weather on the way to work did not deter my mood. It was my meeting with the “powers that be” that changed the mood and set off a gray Monday. Saying blue Monday would not even give it justice.

Seems like there will be a few things changing in the office and not for the better. Don’t feel like getting into them now, just felt like venting a bit.

The lego skits by Eddie Izzard are great, I would love to see the “making of” video for them. The Death Star Canteen skit it hilarious, it may be lost on someone who does is not a Star Wars fan, but even then I am sure one can pick up the humour.

So I am going to try my best to be brave and try and be a good patient for my husband who is going to be looking after me tomorrow – most people have been phoning to wish me luck, I am wishing him luck

Tannie Evita | Pieter has been amusing South African households for years with his very tongue in cheeck humour aimed at South African politics.  Last Wednesday on election day a group of us went to see his latest show – Elections and Erections – a pun  or play on “words” of two actions that were not allowed during the apartheid era, free voting for all and mixed relations. The play centers around how far South African politics has come in the last decade and more compared to where we were 30 years ago. Pieter speaks frankly about some of his own personal experiences as a university student growing up in apartheid South Africa.

We were so fortunate to have Desmond Tutu as a special on-stage guest. What an amazing man, he reminded me of a loving grandfather, his laugh was infectious and was a real chuckle coming from the heart of his belly. Tutu won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 and is another well loved and household name throughout South Africa.

Although most of the humour would be very lost to a non South African audience, to us it was hilarious and we are so looking forward to his next show.
